Random pose generator
Random pose generator for drawing
One click, one new pose. Choose an action or leave it random, decide how extreme it should be, and draw. Every pose is anatomically plausible and can be opened in the 3D Studio to turn, light and export.

How the generator works
It isn’t random joint rotation, which produces broken bodies. Each pose starts from one of 19 action templates (walking, running, jumping, landing, crouching, sitting, kneeling, reaching, punching, kicking, falling, dancing and more). The generator then varies every joint within anatomical limits and balances the body over its feet.
- Energy controls how far the pose moves from a calm stance. Low energy gives quiet, natural poses; high energy gives exaggerated, dynamic ones.
- Asymmetry lets the left and right sides differ. At zero the pose is mirror-symmetric, which rarely looks natural.
- Seed: every pose has a number. The same seed and settings always give the same pose, so you can share it or come back to it.
Real poses from motion capture
Switch the source to Real (mocap) for a random frame from 800 motion-capture recordings of real people: walking, running, dancing, sports, fighting and everyday actions. They include the imperfect in-between moments that invented poses tend to miss.
Ways to practise with random poses
- Gesture warm-up: generate, draw for 60 seconds, generate again. Or use the gesture drawing timer, which does it for you.
- Two-view drawing: draw the 3/4 view, then the side view, without looking at the second one first. Compare.
- Character design: draw the same random pose for three different characters, changing only the proportions.
- Constraint practice: fix the action (for example Falling) and generate ten variations.
Frequently asked questions
Is the random pose generator free?
Yes. It runs in your browser with no sign-up. The poses are yours to use as reference for any drawing, including commercial work.
Can I edit a generated pose?
Yes. Click “Open in 3D Studio”: the same pose opens in the 3D editor, where you can drag joints, pose the hands, change the body type and camera, and export a PNG.
Can I generate poses for two characters?
In the Studio, add a second figure and press R with it selected to give it its own random pose. For ready-made two-person poses, see the couple pose reference.
